Auf ins Abenteuer
Es gibt viel zu berichten! Es gibt auch vieles, worüber es sich lohnen würde, einmal zu resümieren! Doch aus Zeitgründen werde ich mich diesmal auf das Wichtigste beschränken. Ich starte in ein neues Abenteuer (diesmal so richtig), ich weiss zudem jetzt auch, wann dieses Abenteuer definitiv vorbei sein wird und ich habe doch tatsächlich das Glück, am Ende dieses besagten Abenteuers einen Traum in wahr werden zu lassen. Konkret heißt dies:
1. Mexiko kann kommen!
Ich habe die vergangenen Tage in San Diego genutzt, um mich auf die Fahrt durch die Baja California vorzubereiten. Neue Reifen, neue Bremsbeläge, das ganze auch nochmal als Ersatzteile, einen eminent wichtigen 10 Liter - Dromedar-Wassersack, ein paar neue Kleidungsstücke (in Mexiko fährt man besser mit langen Armen, gegen die glühende Sonne in der Wüste), ein wichtiger Schutzblech-Aufkleber (UNVEU) und eine kleine aber feine Reisegitarre sind ab sofort Bestandteil meines Equipments. Zudem habe ich zusammen mit Torii, meinem Reisepartner für den Mexiko-Abschnitt die Route ausgearbeitet und ein paar wichtige Kontakte geknüpft. Denn wie bereits angesprochen, wird die Zeit der Campingplätze und der regelmäßigen Möglichkeiten Wasser nachzufüllen vorbei sein. Einige der Abschnitte führen bis zu 300km am Stück durch unbewohntes Gebiet und da ist es wohl besser, vorbereitet zu sein. Auch ein Grund, weshalb ich das ganze lieber zu zweit als alleine machen wollte. Viele Straßen in Mexiko werden auch eher einem Feldweg als einer gut asphaltierten Straße ähneln, eine gute Karte ist daher auch unerlässlich. Danke nochmal an Chance, der mir seine gebrauchten National Geographic Karten für nur 5$ praktisch geschenkt hat. Ich werde in den kommenden Tagen auch länger mal kein Internet zur Verfügung haben. Keine Sorgen also, wenn ich hier erst später wieder was von mir hören lasse. Nichtsdestotrotz freue ich mich sehr auf dieses neue Abenteuer, weil es jetzt im Prinzip auch wirklich erst eines ist bzw. werden wird.
2. La Paz - Das Ziel der Reise
Ich habe beschlossen, dass in La Paz (das Mexikanische, nicht die Hauptstadt Boliviens) meine Radtour ein Ende finden wird. Es gibt noch so viel zu sehen und zu entdecken, dass mir schlicht und einfach die Zeit davon rennt. also werde ich von da an das Rad gegen einen Rucksack tauschen und als "normaler" Backpacker meinen weg Richtung Argentinien fortsetzen. Es ist sehr schade, dass das Abenteuer auf dem Rad dann endet, aber zum Einen habe ich ja noch mehr als 1600 km vor mir und zum Anderen ist es Zeit für etwas neues.
3. Die Foo Fighters in Mexico City!
Man könnte meinen, jemand hätte das alles so geplant, aber es ist tatsächlich eher Zufall: ich werde am 12.12. von la Paz nach Mexico City fliegen und dort mit Javier, den ich auf meinem Weg in Oregon getroffen hatte, ein paar Tage verbringen, bevor es weiter nach Honduras geht und meine CO2 bilanz so richtig den bach runter geht. Und welche Band, die ich hier auch schon mehrere Male in diversen Gitarren-Abenden erwähnt hatte, spielt just am Tag nach meiner Ankunft in der Mexikanischen Hauptstadt? Die Foo Fighters! Wahnsinn, ein Traum geht in Erfüllung und ich freu mich bereits jetzt wie ein Schnitzel!
In diesem Sinne: Hasta Pronto! Mexico, allá voy!
PS: ich war in den vergangenen Tagen übrigens in Tucson bei Lupita, Eva und Nara (gracias guapas!), habe meinen Mund vor Sprachlosigkeit am Grand Canyon nicht mehr zu bekommen und habe in Las Vegas dann so ziemlich das Gegenteil zur Ruhe in der Natur der letzten tage erlebt. Doch im Moment fehlt die Zeit, das alles zu schildern. Wird aber nachgereicht, versprochen... :)
Let the adventure start!
There is a lot to tell You. also a lot that would be worth to resume or to philosophize. But due to the short time these days, I'll try to focus on the most important things. I am heading to a new adventure (this time a real one), I also know, when this adventure will definitely find it's end and I am so happy and lucky to see a dream come true right at the end of this adventure. In concrete terms:
1. Mexico, here I come!
I used the last days in San Diego to prepare my ride through the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. New tires, new brake pads, the same as spare parts, a very important 10 liter dromedary bag, some new clothes (longsleeves will be useful against the burning sun in the desert) and a cute little travel Guitar are now part of my equipment. I also figured out, how to ride down the peninsula together with Torii, my riding companion for the Mexican part. As I mentioned earlier, the time of nice state parks every now and then with warm showers and grocery stores every couple of miles will be over as soon as we leave Tijuana after the Mexican border. some stretches in the desert will have no services for more than 300 km. So we better make sure to have our water filled up and know, when the next water supply will be. And we also make sure, that the roads we will be taking don't end up becoming a gravel road or nothing more than just a small trail. Thanks Chance for leaving me your perfect Maps, that will help us to avoid such situations!
These circumstances are also another reason, why I wanted to do this with someone and not necessarily on my own. I will also not be able to get Internet access everywhere. So don't panic, if I don't post something every couple of days. Nevertheless I am really exited to start this adventure, as just know it really starts to become one. :)
2. La Paz - my final destination
I decided to end my biking adventure in La Paz, in the south of the Baja California. There are just too many things to see and to discover and unfortunately I don't have all the time in the world. So I will exchange my bike for a bagpack and continue my journey on a more "normal" way towards Argentina. It's really sad, that I now know, that this adventure has a fixed end, but there are still 1600 km to go and additionally it will be time for something new.
3. Foo Fighters in Mexico City!
You could think, that it has been planned for a long time, but its rather pure coincidence. I will fly out from La Paz to Mexico City December 12th to spend some days with Javier, whom I met back in Oregon. Later I will hop on another flight and ruin my CO2-Balance sheet in order to be in Honduras by Christmas.And guess which band will play one of only two concerts in 2014 just one day after I'll arrive in the Mexican Capital? The Foo Fighters! A dream will come true and I am already so exited!

Ps: I have been doing a quite big road trip in the last days. I spent some days with Lupita, Eva and Nara in Tucson (Gracias guapas!), could not believe the beautiful nature at the Grand Canyon and was experiencing quite the opposite way of impressing people in Las Vegas. At the Moment I just don't find the time to tell you all these nice stories. But I promise, I will... :)
