Warum mein Rad inklusive aller Taschen und sämtlichem Inhalt 55 kg wiegt, könnt ihr hier sehen. Ich habe also die Ehre, euch die wichtigsten Bestandteile meiner Ausrüstung kurz vor zu stellen.

Kochgeschirr und Camping-Kocher - Camping cooker and pots

Alles wichtige in kompakter Form. Zwei Töpfe oder Topf und Deckel, zwei kleine Teller, Tassen, Geschirr und den nötigen Gaskocher. Viele Radreisende benutzen stattdessen einen Benzinkocher, der mir jedoch in der Wartung etwas umständlicher erschien. In abgelegenen Gebieten sind die Benzinkocher jedoch von Vorteil, da sie sich an jeder Tankstelle nachfüllen lassen.

Only the most important things in a very compact form. Two pots (or a pot and a lid), plats, two cups and Spoon, Fork and Knife as well as my propane cooker. Many travelers use a fuel cooker, but I thought it might be just easier to maintain a gas cooker. On the other hand, in very poor populated areas (where you don't find outdoor stores) it is easier to get fuel at a gas station. 

Werkzeug und Ersatzteile - Tools and spare parts

Ich denke, ich bin so ziemlich für alle Probleme technischer Natur gewappnet (ohne das ganze hier beschreien zu wollen). Neben dem nötigen Werkzeug habe ich auch einen Ersatzreifen, zwei Ersatzschläuche, WD40 Spray, Bowdenzüge und seit kurzem auch eine Ersatz-Kette dabei.

I think I might be prepared for any imaginable technical problem (without tempting fate). Not only do I carry all the tools to fix the brakes, spokes, chains etc. but also have I many spare parts with me, such as a spare tyre, spare tubes, an extra chain, bowden cables and the good old WD40 spray. 

Medizin, Erste Hilfe - Medicine, First Aid Kit

Die nötigsten Mittel gegen Übelkeit, Durchfall, Grippe sowie Verbände, Pflaster und Rettungsdecke ist mit an Bord, ebenso wie Malariatabletten, ein Antiallergikum, Panthenol sowie Sonnencreme (wichtig!). Für alles andere lautet meine Devise: einfach nicht krank werden!

All the most important medicaments against sickness, diarrhea, flue as well as bandages, tape and a space blanket are part of the equipment. Also tablets against Malaria, an antiallergic Panthenol and sun creme (important!) are in my panniers. For everything else I can just tell myself: you better don't get sick! 

Fahrradschloss - Lock

Hier gibts nicht wirklich viel zu sagen. Hauptsache stabil und abschreckend. Leider ist das U-Schloss auch ziemlich schwer.

Really nothing to say about the lock. Robust and deterrent. Unfortunately, the U-Lock is really heavy.

Buch/Book: Bicycling The Pacific Coast

Zumindest für den USA-Teil der Reise ist dieses Buch wirklich Gold wert. Detaillierte Routenbeschreibungen und Höhenprofile der gesamten Tour füllen diesen kompakten Radreiseführer. Es gibt noch einige andere Werke, doch wer selbst mal drüber nachdenkt, hier entlang zu radeln, sollte sich auf dieses Buch konzentrieren. Dazu gibt es in Washington State und Oregon perfekt auf diese Route zugeschnittene Rad-Karten (kostenlos in jeder Touristen Info)mit denen man prima navigieren kann. Ein weiteres Plus des Buches:  fast auf jedem Abschnitt wird man auf abgelegene Scenic-Tours hingewiesen, die einem Lonely Planet-artige Einblicke verschaffen. 

At least for the USA part of my trip, this book really worth a mint. Detailed route descriptions with elevation profiles included for every stage are part of this extremely well written guide. There are some other books, but I would highly recommend this book to anyone, who is planning to do a similar trip along the west coast. In Washington State and Oregon, you can also combine this book with very good bicycle maps (for free in every tourist info). Another highlight of the book are it's numerous side trips to unknown and less touristy places. 

Zelt, Schlafsack und Isomatte - Tent, Sleeping Bag and Pad

Ich muss sagen, dass ich beim Zelt (30€ bei Metro), der Isomatte (30€ bei Decathlon) und auch dem zweiten Schlafsack (30$ bei Big5 Sports) richtig Glück mit der Qualität und dem Preis hatte. An vielen Orten in denen ich hier in den USA die Preise vergleiche, hätte ich wohl den zehnfachen Preis gezahlt (keine Übertreibung). Zur Erinnerung: den ersten Schlafsack von Decathlon habe ich in Bandon zurücklassen müssen, da die Nächte einfach zu kalt wurden und meine Kalkulation von minimal 10°C deutlich daneben lagen.

I have to admit: I was really lucky regarding my decisions for the tent (30€ at Metro), the sleeping pad (30€ at Decathlon) and the second sleeping bag (30$ at Big5 Sports). In many places where I'm comparing prices here in the US, I would have paid easily ten times the price I paid overseas. Remember that I had to leave my first sleeping bag in Bandon as I suffered in the bitter cold nights in Oregon. My temperature calculation back in Germany was really not good.
